How to sign a PDF on your phone (iPhone and Android)

Updated 6 October 2026

You can sign a PDF on your phone in a minute, with the tools already on it or with a link someone has sent you. Here are the options, and which to use.

  1. Open the email on your phone and tap the button to review and sign.
  2. Read the document. Tap each highlighted field.
  3. Draw your signature with your finger, type it, or upload an image of it.
  4. Tap finish. You do not need an account or an app.

This is how SignEdge works for the person signing: the link opens in the phone’s browser and works on any modern phone.

Signing a PDF you already have on an iPhone

The Files and Mail apps include Markup, which lets you add a signature to a PDF. Open the PDF, tap the markup (pen) icon, tap the plus button and choose Signature, draw it, and place it where it belongs. Save the file when you are done.

Signing a PDF you already have on Android

Many Android phones include a PDF viewer with a signature or drawing option, and there are free apps for it too. Open the PDF, look for a pen, edit or fill-and-sign option, add your signature and save a copy. The exact steps depend on your phone and the app.

If you need other people to sign

Signing your own copy is fine for a form you are handing in. If other people need to sign too, or you need a record of who signed when, use a signing service instead. Upload the PDF, place a field for each person and send it. Each person gets a link and signs on their own device.

Tips

  • Zoom in to place your signature neatly on the line.
  • Use a finger or a stylus. A trackpad or mouse signature can look rough.
  • Keep the finished PDF somewhere safe and send a copy to everyone who needs one.
